Meet Emmett’s Dinos!

Register today for the Unite for Bleeding Disorders Walk, September 27 at the Milwaukee County Zoo!

Cheri Bowman’s son, Emmett, was born in 2020 with Severe Hemophilia A. When Cheri reached out for resources for her family, she found support from GLHF and other families in the bleeding disorders community. Cheri and Emmett formed the team Emmett’s Dinos and have been participating in the Unite for Bleeding Disorders Walk since 2021, raising critical funds for the bleeding disorders community of Wisconsin. Learn why they walk!

When did you start participating in the Unite for Bleeding Disorders Walk? We have been doing the Walk since 2021. Emmett was born in 2020 with severe Hemophilia A.

How did you learn about the Walk? After Emmett was diagnosed, we started reaching out to find support. We learned about GLHF and events where we can meet other families in the bleeding disorders community – the Unite for Bleeding Disorders Walk being one of them.

What is the name of your Walk team? Our team is Emmett’s Dinos! It’s made up of family members – and we have a lot of them!

Why is it important for you to participate in the Walk? I love being able to do the Walk every year. I believe it’s a great way to get families together and help raise money for the bleeding disorders community. While I’m out fundraising, I get to inform a lot of people in my area about bleeding disorders. I believe this also is a great way to get the word out about important issues that people and families living with a bleeding disorder face. It helps people become more aware of chronic diseases like this. The Walk is one of Emmett’s favorite events! He loves getting to see all the different animals!

Have you participated in any other events with GLHF? Yes! This year I was able to go to the state Capitol with my husband and Emmett for Advocacy Day. We met with a couple of representatives and Emmett helped us talk about his bleeding disorder and what that’s like.

How does staying involved in the community help you and your family? I believe it’s so important to stay involved with programs and events held in the bleeding disorders community. I live in a very rural area and there aren’t many people near me that I can connect with on a regular basis.

These programs help get everyone together and help you see that you’re not alone. Going to these events helps me connect and talk to other people in the bleeding disorders community that other people don’t really understand.
