Honoring Dr. Lynn Malec – A Distinguished Clinician, Research and Advocate for the Bleeding Disorders Community
It is with a heavy heart that Great Lakes Hemophilia Foundation (GLHF) joins associates across the bleeding disorders, medical and research communities in grieving the loss of Dr. Lynn Malec. Dr. Malec worked tirelessly to advance care and give people living with bleeding disorder hope. We know this is a tremendous loss for her loved ones, patients and colleagues whose lives she touched.
As a clinical expert, Dr. Malec worked as senior medical director of the Versiti Medical Sciences Institute and as the program director for the Comprehensive Center for Bleeding Disorders, She brought her warmth, curiosity and deep commitment to patient-centered care. She cared deeply for her patient and families, offering not only expert medical guidance but also compassion, reassurance and hope.
As Medical Director of GLHF’s Camp Klotty Pine, a camp specifically for children with bleeding disorders, Dr. Malec helped create a space where children could feel safe, supported and understood. She made Camp Klotty Pine a safe and nurturing place where all were welcome.
As a clinician, Dr. Malec brought together clinical care, research, and education to improve patient outcomes across our region and beyond. Her work was instrumental in innovative therapies, including gene therapy programs – and advocated for equitable access to treatments. Her contributions significantly improved outcomes for patients and families.
Beyond her professional accomplishments. Dr. Malec was a loving mother and wife, generous colleague and friend. Many in our network had the privilege of witnessing firsthand her commitment to improving outcomes for patients and families. Her insight, warmth will be profoundly missed.
