Resources for Milwaukee County Residents Affected by Flooding
Milwaukee residents and organizations are coming to the forefront to aid communities impacted by severe flooding. Here are resources to help with the recovery process. For assistance with bleeding disorders related needs, please contact Great Lakes Hemophilia Foundation.
Severe flooding throughout Milwaukee County has left residents without cars, food, damaged homes and a difficult cleanup process.
According to the National Weather Service, the Milwaukee area received approximately 5.74 inches of rain on Saturday, Aug. 9.
As recovery starts, here are resources to help residents.
Shelter and food
The American Red Cross has emergency shelters at Holler Park, 5151 S. Sixth St., and Washington Park Senior Center, 4420 W. Vliet St. There will be food, water, emotional support and charging areas at each shelter. Walk-ins are welcome or call 1-800-733-2767. More information here.
Wisconsin Department of Children and Families offers emergency assistance to families facing a housing crisis like natural disaster, homelessness, domestic violence and other emergencies. Families receive a payment and resources to help with housing, energy assistance and more. Click here to check your qualifications or contact your local W-2 agency. More information here.
Emergency Disaster Services is a program led by the Salvation Army USA Central Territory. The program provides free shelter, food, financial assistance and other support to natural disaster victims. Junk removal and storage
Power Moves Relocation LLC is offering free junk removal for flood victims beginning Tuesday, Aug. 12. Individuals are limited to two free items per household. Items include furniture, mattresses, bagged carpets and other large items. Water must be cleared and small items must be bagged. For additional cleaning services, you will be charged. The City of Milwaukee Public Works is waiving fees at the drop-off centers on 3879 W. Lincoln Ave. and 6660 N. Industrial Road. You can bring recycled, composable and landfilled items from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Sunday, Aug. 17. When you arrive, staff will inspect your load and you are expected to unload everything yourself. More information.
